The Korean Armistice 1953

At 22:30hrs Adelaide time, on the 27 July 1953, the sounds of gunfire ceased on the battlefields of Korea. After three years of intense fighting, more than 5 million people lost their lives, in a war that came only 5 short years after World War Two, The Armistice that was finally agreed upon on the 19 July 1953 was finally signed on the 27 July 1953.

Over 37,000 United Nations troops entered the Korean conflict, of that figure, Australia committed 17,000 troops, 340 lost their lives, 43 of those were missing in action, presumed deceased and 1,200 were wounded.

On Korean Veterans Day, over 70 years ago, we still remember each and every one of the brave personnel who fought and worked so diligently. We also commemorate those who lost their lives in the pursuit of peace, those who were wounded, those that remained missing, and we remember the families of those that went to war.

Lest we forget.
