United Nations Peacekeeping Day
East Timor - (Timor Leste) 

On the 14th September Australia remembers our involvement in the United Nations Peacekeeping force that went to Timor-Leste from 1999 to 2013. Around 5,500 ADF personnel were initially deployed to East Timor. Later more than 7000 ADF personnel and approx 250 AFP personnel would help to bring peace and stability to Timor-Leste. Approx 1,500 East Timorese were killed and over 300,000 people became refugees. We commemorate all Peace keepers, and remember the people of Timor-Leste. Listed below are the United Nation Missions from 1999-2013. 1999-1999 - UNAMET (United Nations Mission East Timor)

1999-2000 - INTERFET (International Force for East Timor)

 

2000-2002 - UNTAET (United Nations Transitional Administration of East Timor

 

2002-2005 - UNMISET (United Nations Mission of Support in East Timor

 

2005-2006 - UNOTIL (United Nations Office in East Timor)

 

2006-2012 - UNMIT (United Nations Mission to East Timor)

 

2012-2013 - ISF - (International Stabilisation Force)

 

Over 7,000 troops were involved with these deployments. Australia suffered six losses.
